An abnormality at the 12 week scan

By anonymous on 22/12/2011
Hi there, I feel totally lost at the moment :-( I'm 32 years old and a type 1 diabetic, also nearly died in a car crash 4 yrs ago now and am registered disabled and have trouble walking and constant pain! Miraculously after 5 years of trying for a baby I finally fell pregnant and all was fantastic until I went for my 12 week scan, which to our surprise we found out our little miracle baby had an abnormality, organs had developed ouside of its body!
We were referred to a specialist in the hope that they would say they could do something and all will be ok but no, we were advised that this abnormality was very severe, in which nothing could be done for the baby should I continue with the pregnancy, and we were strongly advised to terminate!
We had that heartbreaking decision to make and I went into hospital on 18th Nov for a termination, where I had to deliver our little boy, who just looked so perfect.
We had the funeral last week and are awaiting post mortem results!!
I feel totally heartbroken that I've had to go through this and lose the one thing I wanted most in life, my own family!!
I know there are so many of you out there who've been through this and worse. Just wanted to share my story and speak to anyone else who had gone through anything similar? My little boy had something called body stalk anomaly or something?? I feel totally empty and totally cheated :-( deeply sad

A very sad story, and your pain and grief is very evident. You have lost a very wanted baby, which must have been heartbreaking after trying for 5 years. If you feel up to contacting a centre in your area they would be able to support you through this grieving time, and also may have details of other women locally who have experienced a loss like this.http://www.careconfidential.com/Centres.aspx
